Read morePertisau is the oldest resort in the Austrian Tyrol, located on the shores of Lake Achensee at 940 metres above sea level. Once an incredibly popular hunting and fishing resort for the wealthy and privileged, including Emperor Maximilian I, Pertisau today is a quiet, sprawling village that enjoys an idyllic setting on the turquoise waters of Lake Achensee.
The village and lake are set against the stunning background of the Karwendel Mountains, including the famous Dristenhof Mountain Peak. Pertisau is the centre of the Achensee shipping business, where goods delivered to the village on the Achenseebahn Mountain railway are delivered to the other villages on the lake by the shipping company.

Lake Achensee is considered the top tourist destination in the Austrian Tyrol and is the region's largest lake (9.4km long and up to 1km wide). It is renowned for its crystal-clear water, which is close to drinking water in quality. Achensee is popular all year round, with walkers and climbers enjoying over 450km of marked paths around and above the lake, from gentle lakeside strolls to challenging hikes on the ridges and peaks of the Karwendel Mountains.
