The delightful town of Baveno enjoys an enviable location on the western shore of Lake Maggiore. Amongst its highlights is the flower-filled promenade with wonderful views out to the Borromean Islands. In the early 19th century, the town began to attract tourists, many of whom stayed in some of the illustrious villas built by the Lombard aristocracy.
Before long many of Europe's wealthiest families were spending their summers here, with Queen Victoria and Sir Winston Churchill among them. Today, Baveno is a pretty town with much to recommend it, and with easy access to many attractions along and around the lakeside, it is a great base from which to explore Maggiore.
