Tiger tourism ban lifted from Ranthambore National Park

4 September 2012

Specialist rail tour operator, Great Rail Journeys, is pleased to announce that it will continue to grow the number of departures to Ranthambore National Park as part of its extensive India programme with immediate effect following Tuesday's ruling which overturned India's Supreme Court order banning tourism in all of India's core tiger habitats.

As the UK's largest operator of rail holidays to India, Great Rail Journeys offers travellers a wide range of compelling itineraries to India, many of which include the unique experience of viewing tigers in their natural habitat at Ranthambore National Park including 'India's Tigers & Palaces''India's Palace on Wheels' and 'The Indian Maharaja'.

The ruling has been welcomed by conservationists and environmentalists alike who advocate that tourism protects India's endangered tigers by deterring poachers and encouraging conservation initiatives. Tourism also sustains the many communities surrounding India's tiger habitats.

Alex Roberts, Great Rail Journeys Marketing Director, commented "As advocates of sustainable tourism, we are delighted with the ruling allowing tourism to resume to India's tiger habitats and in turn, helping to protect the tigers, their natural habitat and the surrounding communities." He added "We have for many years run a range of hugely popular tours to India which visit Ranthambore National Park and we are delighted that we can once again offer our customers the opportunity to see these magnificent animals in their natural environment."
