Itinerary

Day 1 - To Strasbourg

Your holiday begins as you meet at London St Pancras, taking the Eurostar to Paris. In the French capital, your group continues onwards to Strasbourg, where you spend tonight. This charming Alsace city is a great place to pause your journey. With a captivating blend of German and French influences, the quaint Old Town here is a medieval wonder, dominated by the spectacular Notre Dame Cathedral with its famous astronomical clock. At Christmas, the city comes alive with cheerful lights and a fantastic traditional Christmas market - one of the oldest and most iconic in the whole of Europe.

Includes
  • Dinner
Day 2 - From the Alsace to the alpine village of Wilderswil

With a morning to explore beautiful Strasbourg, you could opt to take a stroll to the half-timbered houses of La Petite France, where a collection of pretty buildings gathers round serene canals. In the early afternoon, you continue your journey, travelling via Basel and Interlaken to Wilderswil. Your traditional hotel in which you spend the next five nights has been run by the same family for the past 60 years. This pretty alpine village occupies an idyllic spot beside the Lütschine River at the mountainous heart of Switzerland's Jungfrau region and is a scenic base from which to enjoy the festive season.

Includes
  • Breakfast, Dinner
Day 3 - The Jungfrau Express

Enjoy one of your holiday's highlights today, a return journey to the 'Top of Europe', Jungfraujoch. The first leg of your spectacular rail adventure takes you on the Bernese Oberland Railway, joining the Jungfrau Express at Kleine Scheidegg. Climbing steeply through a tunnel deep inside the Eiger and the Mönch mountains, you emerge just below the summit of the Jungfrau. At more than 11,000 feet, Jungfraujoch is the highest railway station in the continent.

There's some free time here to bask in spellbinding snow-globe views from the Sphinx observatory including vistas of endless mountain peaks and the immense Aletsch Glacier, the largest glacier in the Alps. You could also head to Lindt Swiss Chocolate Heaven for an insight into the history and making of Swiss chocolate. The Alpine Sensation exhibition is also well worth a visit. Step onto a moving walkway and back in time, as enchanting projected images and music tell of the history of tourism in the Alps and pay tribute to the miners who built the Jungfrau Railway more than 100 years ago.

Includes
  • Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 4 - Christmas Eve in Interlaken

It's Christmas Eve today, and you enjoy an excursion to Interlaken, the capital of the beautiful Bernese Oberland. Nestled between two lakes - Lake Thun and Lake Brienz - Interlaken showcases all of the hallmarks of a picture-postcard Swiss destination, with its snow-capped peaks, rolling hillsides and rugged rocky outcrops.

With some free time here, it's the perfect time to indulge in some festivities. At its heart, Interlaken is a historic town and its compact size means it's delightful to explore on foot, especially at this time of year when Christmas lights and decorations adorn the buildings. Perhaps settle down in a local café with a hot chocolate or a glass of wine and order some Swiss fondue - a tasty melted-cheese dish - as you relax and watch the world go by.

Your group gathers back at the charming Wilderswil hotel in the evening to enjoy a three-course seasonal dinner and get ready for Christmas Day in style.

Includes
  • Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 5 - Christmas Day in Grindelwald

Today is Christmas Day. You begin your day by taking the train to nearby Grindelwald, a pretty alpine village tucked away at the foot of the north face of the Eiger. Grindelwald encapsulates small-town Swiss charms, with attractive wooden chalets and quaint town squares all surrounded by open skiing fields, and you're free here to spend some time exploring at your own pace.

You could take a yuletide stroll through the quaint streets of this idyllic town that shimmers with festive atmosphere before returning to your hotel. The group comes together for dinner and gets into the Christmas spirit in an ideal festive setting.

Includes
  • Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 6 - At leisure in Wilderswil

Today is Boxing Day, and you're free to explore Wilderswil at your own pace. Wilderswil is the epitome of a traditional Swiss alpine village and - thanks to its history, culture and beauty - it is listed on the Inventory of Swiss Heritage Sites.

If you fancy exploring further afield, you could cross the Brünig Pass to Lucerne and spend some time discovering this pretty lakeside city known as the 'City of Lights'. The route passes a number of lakes, including the glistening Lake Brienz. Use your included Swiss Travel Card for 50% off rail, bus and boat fares.

Includes
  • Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 7 - To London

Our fantastic Christmas holiday to the Swiss mountains concludes after breakfast as you travel via Bern to Lausanne. On the shore of Lake Geneva, Switzerland's largest, this city looks out across the water to a panorama of enticing French Alps. After dashing through the French countryside to Paris, you connect with the Eurostar that returns you to London St Pancras by the evening.

Includes
  • Breakfast, Lunch
