Rail Motor Car

Specially introduced in 1928 to convey the Viceroy of India to the summer capital of the British Raj, this exclusive, single carriage heritage train travels between Kalka and Shimla. Climbing the Shivalik foothills of the Himalayas at a leisurely pace, passengers enjoy lunch onboard during the 60-mile journey. With a steep gradient of 1 in 33, the train negotiates 102 tunnels, 919 bends and more than 860 bridges. There is plenty of time to admire and marvel these features as well as the spectacular mountain panoramas that line the route.
