South Tynedale Railway

We journey on the heritage South Tynedale Railway, England's highest narrow gauge railways. On this train, travel three and a half miles from Alston to Lintley Halt and Kirkhaugh, winding through the breathtaking North Pennines Area of Natural Beauty, pulled by either steam or diesel locomotives. The line originally ran as a passenger railway, closing in 1976 in the final days of commercial steam railway in England. The line was re-opened in 1983 as a tourist railway, and continues to run successfully today.
