The 34-mile (54 km) narrow gauge Tua Line is the most spectacular and dramatic of all the Douro line railways. Beginning in the pretty town of Mirandela, we travel through the wild and beautiful landscape of the mountainous Tras-os-Montes region. As we travel towards Tua, the line follows the Tua River, flowing along the bottom of the gorge some 5,900 feet (1,800 metres) below. At Tua we join the main Douro line, which closely follows the River Douro past terraced vineyards dotted with port warehouses, back to Peso da Regua.
